The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has raided senior advocate Shambhu Thapa’s law firm at Putalisadak on Friday afternoon.

A DRI team confiscated the CPU of desktop computer, VAT bills and other materials from Thapa’s office, according to Thapa.

The DRI officials told Thapa that they came to investigate whether his law firm cheated tax.

Raid at other places also

Meanwhile, DRI Director General Khum Raj Punjali informed that altogether six private offices — including two law firms, a doctor’s clinic, two engineering consultancies and a chartered accountant’s office — were raided in suspicion of tax evasion.

He said files and computers were confiscated for investigation.

He confirmed that the DRI officials went to Thapa’s firm for the raid but did not divulge more information, citing the teams were yet to report to the DRI.

Foul play: Thapa

A former chairman of Nepal Bar Association, Thapa charged that he is being targeted by the state for criticising the appointment of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi as the chairman of the interim government, and graft-accused Lokman Singh Karki’s appointment as the chief commissioner of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
