Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has been sworn in as Nepal’s new Prime Minister.

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of his office and secrecy amid a special ceremony organised at the premises of Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas at 2:56 pm today.

Following his swearing-in, Koirala administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, who has been appointed the only minister in the Cabinet.
The Legislature-Parliament had elected the 74-year-old as the prime minister yesterday. He is the 37th executive head in the country’s modern history, and fifth elected one after the country was declared a republic in 2008.

Vice-President Paramananda Jha, outgoing Chairman of Interim Election Council of Minister Khil Raj Regmi, heads of the constitutional bodies, chiefs of the security agencies, government secretaries, foreign diplomats, leaders of political parties took part in the ceremony.
PN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal was also present on the occasion though earlier it was said that the CPN-UML would stay away from the PM’s oath-taking ceremony to protest the NC’s reluctance to give it the Ministry of Home Affairs.
