The closed session of the UCPN (Maoist) general convention was deferred on Thursday following disagreement over the size of party central committee and selection of office bearers.
Delegates participating in the session raised objection to the proposal put forth by the general convention organising committee to form 151-member strong central committee.
“The closed session was deferred till tomorrow after voices were raised for making the size of party central committee less than 100-member,” said party spokesperson Agni Sapkota at media centre.
The process to select new leadership was expected to begin today after the endorsement of the proposal put forth by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The convention being held at the premises of Hetauda Textile Industry was protracted further due to the disagreement over leadership appointment. The convention was scheduled to complete by today.
Sapkota claimed that party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was happy at the pressure to reduce the size of central committee. “Comrade Chairman welcomed the uniform voice from all the 63 groups demanding a small central committee resembling a typical communist party’s,” said the Maoist spokesperson.
