CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari , who is in India for medical treatment, has been diagnosed with serious heart problem.

The 76-year-old former finance minister was diagnosed with aortic valve regurgitation in which the aortic valve becomes leaky allowing blood to eject out of the heart and into the aorta. The problem causes the heart to work much harder and may result in heart failure.

“Doctors have said that I have to go through an open heart surgery to change the valve,” said Adhikari speaking to eKantipur at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon near New Delhi. He informed that the date of surgery will be fixed only after further consultations with senior cardiologists in the hospital.

Adhikari, a patient of asthma, was suggested by the doctors to operate in summer seasons. “This will be finalised in next week,” he said.
