KATHMANDU, JUN 24 – Nepal defeated Malaysia by 107 runs in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup played at Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Chasing the target of 248-runs, Malaysia never looked coming close and were all out on 140 runs in the 43rd over. Nepali bowler Rahul Kumar Vishwakarma took five wickets to restrict the opponents in a lowly total. Prithu Baskota and Avinash Karn grabbed two wickets each and Sagar Pun registered a wicket to his name.
Muhamad Syahadat was the highest scorer for Malaysia on 36 runs.
Earlier, riding on the 70 runs by Sagar Pun, Nepal posted a competitive total in the game. Pun smashed four boundaries and three towering sixes in his 90 balls knock. Rajesh Pulami Magar and opener Pradeep Airee both scored 39 runs each while another opener Subash Khakurel cracked 33 runs. Lower order batsmen Bhuvan Karki (23) and Hasim Ansari (21) stitched a valuable partnership in the dying overs to post a competitive total in the game.
Sivanantha Krishnan grabbed three wickets for Malaysia while Nazril Rahman took two and Anwar Rahman took a wicket.
Nepal had suffered a eight-wicket thrashing against Pakistan in their first game of the competition on Saturday.
