Govinda Mainali, who has just arrived in Nepal after Japanese Court
acquitted him of the murder charges of a Japanese woman after rape, has
accused Japanese officials of ill-treating him while doing time in the
jail.

Addressing a press meet in the Capital, Mainali said that he was
badly treated while doing time in the jail in Japan. He also complained
that Nepal paid no heed to his case while in the jail. He thanked all
those who helped him to get an acquittal from the Japanese High Court,
establishing that he was innocent.

Japanese High Court had landed Mainali in jail, where he served for
15 years, on the allegation of murdering a Japanese woman after rape in
the month of March, 1997.

Mainali’s relatives had filed a writ petition in the Japanese High
Court seeking a DNA test – which ultimately tested negative,
establishing strong evidence that he was innocent. Based on this
evidence, Japanese High Court acquitted him of the murder charges.

Mainali, permanent residnet of Ilam, had touched down at the
Tribhuvan International Airport by a Thai Airways at 12:30 pm today with
his wife and two daughters.
