The Department of Roads and Shanghai Construction Group signed an agreement for the expansion of Kalanki-Koteswor road in Kathmandu. As per the deal, the 9 km stretch will be expanded to a 10-lane road and is being carried out with grant assistance of the government of China.
The agreement was signed between director general of the Department of Roads Dinkar Sharma and deputy director general of Shanghai Construction Group Shen Caxing on behalf of their respective departments on Tuesday.
The works for the expansion is set to begin within the next three months as per an agreement reached in principle to expand the ring road during the official visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Kathmandu in January last year.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 4 billion that includes a four-lane each road on the left and the right, and one lane each for cyclists and pedestrian with three overhead bridges in between, RSS quoted director general Sharma as saying.
The works will begin within three months after the arrangement of some 200 workers and necessary equipment from China, Sharma added.
