The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rabi Raj Shrestha for three months in connection with his suspected involvement in illegal foreign currency smuggling at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on October 5.
The ministry suspended him on the recommendation of Nepal Police Headquarters.
Sending a letter to the police headquarters, the ministry said SSP Shrestha would have to face additional action if he would be found guilty in the case.
A three-member high level probe panel headed by AIG Bhisma Prasai had submitted its report to IGP Kuber Singh Rana suspecting his involvement in the case.
The police had arrested Indian citizen Binod Kumar Soni with nine different foreign currencies totaling Rs 12.4 million from a plane before it flew to Dubai at TIA on October 5.
He was arrested after police found him carryiing illegal foreign currencies while conducing security check following a bomb hoax at the TIA. – Nepalnews
