A joint team of Revenue Investigation Department and Nepal Police raided the gold and jewellery shops in Bishal Bazaar of Kathmandu in suspicion of trading on smuggled gold on Wednesday afternoon.

An Indian national, identified as Pitambar Paswan from Motihari of Bihar, was arrested in possession of one kilogram gold from Thankot yesterday evening.

During interrogation, he had told the police that he collected the precious metal from a shop in Bishal Bazaar and was ferrying it to one Prabhu Sarraf in Birgunj.

Based on the information provided by him, the law enforcement agencies swung to action today.
